ask questions
a poem
today, i want you to ask questions:
big ones,
like who am i supposed to be?
and small ones,
like should i call my best friend?
and the answer to that last one is yes.
ask questions like
how can i be more present?
where is the nearest ice cream shop?
how do the stars burn like that?
ask questions like
how can i be better?
how can i be kinder?
am i too old to dance in the rain?
and the answer to that last one is no.
spend your time questioning,
wondering, exploring, curious.
a life without questions is stagnant
like a algae filled pond
but you are a river that rushes
with raging rapids, in fluid motion
and constant rushing.
today, i want you to ask questions.
they are much more interesting
than answers.
ask questions like
am i important?
am i worthy?
does any of this matter?
and the answer to all three is yes.
Happy July! It’s my birth month, so I’m beginning to reflect on what this past year has meant to me. If I had to define my 23rd year with one word, I think it would be questions. It has been a year of uncertainty and discovery. I’ve spent a lot of time unsure and afraid of the unknown, but I’ve started to love questioning. The questions have become more important to me than the answers.
I believe curiosity is healthy, it propels us forward and spurs us to growth. Living in a time without many answers has been scary, but also beautiful because I’ve been given a chance to live my life in interesting ways instead of just letting life happen to me.
Today, I want you to ask questions. Any kind of question, important or random, big or small, complex or simple. Be curious, be inquisitive, and be interested in what’s going on around you.
Sincerely,
Caroline Cherry

Spring into summer
I am an observer of the seasons. The vernal equinox is my version of New Year’s, allowing my new beginning to fall during spring instead of winter. I consider myself lucky to live in a place where each season gets its time to shine; freezing winters, blazing summers, springs and autumns that burst into color.
My week at Yale
Going through security at LaGuardia, the TSA agent spotted my freshly bought Yale sweatshirt, complete with a crest sporting the school motto, “Lux et Veritas.”

Happy early (?) birthday!!! I think years of uncertainty end up becoming some of the most powerful and transformative of our lives ☺️
