What's so interesting about this poem and its reflection is that the poem itself feels like it's circling around the feeling, trying to put a finger on it and leaning on metaphor to do so. Some feelings have no names (or perhaps a very long german one), but are universal regardless, and I think you identified one of those! Thank you so much for sharing this!
that was fantastic! the rhythm was so well done, everything felt in place and the rhymes were subtle. I totally get what your saying that you don't know what you meant when you wrote it. sometimes I don't know what I meant while I'm in the process of the writing but something in our subconious I think is speaking out.
You know I struggle with emotion, so I just love that poetry allows us the freedom to express whatever we want, however we want - and the beauty of this piece being able to be interpreted however the reader feels is just magic! I read this as someone feeling completely overwhelmed, as if the pressures of life or circumstance surround them entirely. Incredible, as always!π€
Oh, how I love this. We make sense of ourselves through our writing, and sometimes we let go of the words, only to return to them later and wonder... Who was I then ? What did it mean to me ? It takes one particular moment where you feel it all over again to be like : oh. That's what it meant. It's like we change our language sometimes, or maybe not, maybe it's more like our moods make us adopt new dialects ?
I love this poem. Itβs kind of a masterpiece. You know I have to read it many times before Iβm ready to let it all in. You have been wowing me for a long, long time. I think youβre pretty special. (In case you didnβt know).
oh, dear! i needed to read this, caroline! you always have something to say that reaches into my heart and makes it feel less alone. thank you for sharing <3
absolutely love this metaphor. like you said, feeling swallowed can mean so many different things. to me, it speaks to a sense of suffocation from self-abandonment or depression. so, so well done, as always
With my depth of poetry somewhere in the neighborhood of "The Little Turtle" by Vachel Lindsay, I was grateful for the cliff notes, with a Jonah ref., you gave att the end of your post...
This was really good. In enjoyed the use of metaphor and felt it gave a good picture of how being swallowed might feel!
